Ōra King Ambassador Connection
The Ōra King ambassador awards exists to recognise one of their greatest assets – A global group of exceptional chefs carefully selected to both represent and inspire the brand.
We created a bespoke piece of art as a prestigious welcome into the global community. Inspired by the concept of connection - between water and fish, people and place, and among the individual chefs themselves.
The sculptural form comes from the global connections mapped from the locations of the selected ambassador chefs – referencing the incredible potential of the collaboration and anticipation of what they can create together.
The colour is a reflection of the natural essence of source - the stunning blues and greens found in both the Salmon skin and the waters of the sacred Te Waikoropupū Springs and the hatchery in Tākaka - where everything begins for Ōra King Salmon.
Individually poured, resulting in a one of a kind colour wash and texture, symbolizing the individuality of uniqueness of each recipient.
The Ōra King Ambassador Award stands as a testament to the power of connection, creativity and the celebration of excellence in culinary artistry, relationships and what we can achieve together.

Ōra King TYEE – Hail the chief
Embodying the rarity, legacy, and spirit of this impossibly immense fish and the sacred waters from which it has emerged.
TYEE are extraordinarily large King Salmon that continue to grow beyond their normal life-cycle. This phenomenon occurs naturally in the wild, and the New Zealand King Salmon company is the first in the world to be able grow TYEE in an aquaculture environment - with very limited numbers available each year.
We were briefed to create a gift for the chef recipient of the seasons largest Ōra King TYEE. So we went back to the source in search of a very special momento – something that could speak to both the unique story of the fish and the unique opportunity for the chef to think big and create dishes that challenge dining conventions.
We decided to package up and gift the recipient chef a river stone sourced from the headwaters that flow into the pristine Waikoropupū Springs. A protected water source, verified as some of the clearest in the world, that then feeds the farm where the TYEE are raised. These sacred waters provided the perfect inspiration for the gift, a metaphor and origin story for both the fish itself and the chef gift - unique artefact to celebrate the years largest TYEE.
The path to the finished product was a study in contrasts - balancing the overt and the subtle, the hidden and the obvious - art and artifact. The deep-set frame, engineered to cradle a heavy, natural stone - while simple at first glance is layered with meaning. Fish skin, digitally printed from a TYEE photograph is meticulously treated with multiple hits of ink to get the textured backdrop just right, while a laser-etched and blackened brand mark catches the light from within the frame with an understated elegance.
Every detail, from the varnished, one of a kind river stone to the careful placement of the branding elements, was designed to ensure the piece reads as a work of art not a sales object or standard branded collateral. An object worthy of this exceptional fish and of display in the finest culinary establishments.
